Today is my first day here at Future Visions, but before I came here on the train I was both anxious yet excited for what would be in store for me when I arrived.
As I entered the reception area for the main office, I was overwhelmed by a sense of professionalism in a beautifully modern building. When I had completed all of the boring admin tasks I was seated down waiting for the big boss to turn up.
After a few moments of anticipation I was greeted by a friendly face who introduced himself to me as Nathan Littleton. We then progressed into the office, which surprised me, as it was only him in the office. I was really shocked that the company office was so small; Nathan explained that a lot of people in the company work externally. So I was instantly shown to my desk and we began discussing what I was hoping to get out of this placement.
Within moments of talking to Nathan I felt instantly relaxed and comfortable in the environment he had created. The discussion then continued into what I knew and what interested me about the company. As the day continued I was given the list of jobs that I had to do, and was given all the support that I needed in completing the tasks which made my confidence increase tremendously as this is my first work experience placement in a business oriented company.
As I was completing my tasks the hours flew by and it was soon lunchtime! By this time it was time for a well earned break, so I escaped the office and ventured into the city of Birmingham. Being from the country side the city lifestyle is not something I am used to being in, but after a nice visit into Greggs I found a nice sunny spot on the grass happily eating my lunch whilst watching the busy city goers rushing around!
After a few moments of reflection from what had happened this morning I returned back to the office and carried on with my tasks. To my delight, Nathan had put the radio on which was a nice background to work to. I was also quite pleased that when I showed him the work I had done that he seemed impressed with my efforts, which put a seemingly endless grin on my face after receiving a nice compliment from my boss for the week.
Now as the day starts to wind down, and drawing towards the big 5 o’clock, I look back at the days work and think to myself “I am very lucky to have been given this experience, and I think it will be invaluable to my future.”
Before I leave I would just like to say thank you to Nathan. Same again tomorrow!
